How to Identify Your Apple Device
If you don’t know what model of iPhone, iPad or Mac you have you can use the guide below to help you identify your device!
How to Identify Your iPhone and iPad via iOS
1. Go to Settings on your device
2. In the main settings page find the General section of the settings
3. In the General settings go to the About section
4. Here you will find a list of information about your device including; Model Name, Model Number and Serial Number of your device
5. Tapping on the displayed model number will bring up a different model number that begins with A and is followed by 4 numbers e.g. A1901. You can use that model number to identify the device you have.
How to Identify Your Apple Mac via MacOS
1. Click on the Apple logo in the top left corner of the screen. This will open a drop down menu.
2. Click the About This Mac section which will bring up a new window
3. In this window you can view all the different specs of your Mac as well as import idetification details such as the name of the device, the year of release and serial Number of your Mac.
4. You can use this information to identify the specific model you have.
Model Number Locations if Your Device is Struggling to Operate
iPhones:
With older iPhones you can find the serial number and model number printed on the back of your iPhone, near the regulatory markings. On newer iPhones you have to pop out the SIM tray and you will find either the serial number or model number etched on the inside of the chassis. For all iPhones it’s also on the original packaging, next to a barcode label. The model number begins with A and is followed by 4 numbers e.g. A1901. You can use this model number to identify the device you have.
iPads:
You can find the serial number and model number printed on the back of your iPad, near the regulatory markings. It’s also on the original packaging, next to a barcode label. The model number begins with A and is followed by 4 numbers e.g. A1675. You can use this model number to identify the device you have.
Macs:
You can find the serial number and model number printed on the underside of your Mac, near the regulatory markings. It’s also on the original packaging, next to a barcode label. The model number begins with A and is followed by 4 numbers e.g. A1466. You can use this model number to identify the device you have.
